Mercado Medieval

This past weekend I went with a group of students to Orihuela, a town 45 minutes southwest on the train. Orihuela is a little coastal town and is home to Spain's largest medieval market.
A medieval market is exactly what it sounds like. I would compare it to an American renaissance festival, but there is no comparison seeing as the streets and buildings in Orihuela haven't changed all that much since the medieval times.
There were stalls selling every item imaginable, and tavern booths selling pints of beer faster than they could pour them, as well as huge wood fires piled with every cut of pork possible. There were huge copper cauldrons boiling octopus and wheels of cheese the size of car tires. It was fabulous!
We arrived around 11:30 and were there until 2:00, I wish we could have stayed longer! I also wish I had had my pocket dictionary on me because not knowing what the different foods were called kept me from trying everything (which in reality, might be for the best)!
